BHOPAL: Non-maintenance of motor pumps and poor and insufficient infrastructure have caused a crisis of water supply in residential colonies along the Hoshangabad Road which get Narmada water. Over heads tanks are not being filled. Not only this, the household are not getting water supply with proper pressure. The implementation of Narmada water supply project Bhopal has been done under the JNNURM by the Public Health Engineering Section. Currently 100 MLD water is being supplied through the scheme. The corporators have been raising the issue with officials, but now they cannot raise the issue due to imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC). So they are on the back-foot even and are waiting for MCC to phase out.
Narmada water supply is made from Hirnia. There is power house but motor pumps frequently develop technical snags. Now, another hi-tech power house is being developed to lift water Narmada River at Hirnia. Secondly, overhead tank construction has been completed in Shakti Nagar. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is expected to connect it for normal supply. Hopefully, problem regarding supply with normal pressure will be solved.
City Engineer (water supply) AR Paur said, “We are trying our level best to stream line water supply. There may be problems in one or two colonies. But as such there is no water crisis in colonies along the Hoshangabad Road. Shakti Nagar based over head tank will be connected as soon as it is possible and it will further improve the situation.”
Mayor-in-council (MiC) member Kewal Mishra said, “MCC is implemented in connection with Lok Sabha polls. So we cannot raise the issue with officials as they are in election mode. Even if we complain, the officials will not entertain. So we are waiting till May 12 as Bhopal will go to poll on this date. Then we will raise the issue of water crisis in the colonies. Non- maintenance of motor pumps is one of major cause of poor water supply. Motors pumps are installed in Bhopal as well as in Hirnia pump house.”
