Congress candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat Ajay Maken on Wednesday led a delegation to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to complain against the “high handedness/use of excessive force of authorities against traders in Mayapuri who were protesting against the arbitrary actions by the civic body during a recent sealing drive”.
Accompanied by a delegation of traders, Mr. Maken submitted a memorandum on violation of human rights and demanded a high level inquiry into the incident that took place on April 13.
“Traders protesting against sealing in Mayapuri were manhandled and beaten with rifle butts/shoes/bricks in a joint operation of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the Delhi Police, paramilitary forces and municipal officials,” Mr. Maken said.
He added that the sealing was carried out without prior intimation or notice to the scrap dealers.
