One of India’s largest e-commerce platform – Flipkart – recently set up a page dedicated to the new Pixel handsets.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL handsets have been some of the best we’ve seen in terms of camera performance and software integrity. However, price-conscious smartphone markets still elude the search giant as its handsets demand a premium price that very few consumers are willing to pay.
Google has realised the potential of tapping into major Indian and Chinese smartphone markets where demand value for money exceeds heavily priced flagships. And, the long-rumoured Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are set to bring Google’s excellent camera performance and software to the mid-range market. While the release of upcoming mid-tier Pixel handsets is all but confirmed, the actual date wasn't revealed -until now.
One of India’s largest e-commerce platform – Flipkart – recently set up a page dedicated to the new Pixel handsets. The page reads; “Help is on the way. Something big is coming to the Pixel universe.” According to the page, the new handsets are slated to debut on the 8th of May 2019.
While Google hasn’t confirmed any details of the upcoming Pixel phones, we expect them to be powered by the Snapdragon 675 or 710 SoC.
Considering Pixel handsets primarily focus on software to enhance and optimise picture quality, the upcoming mid-range handsets might feature a 12-megapixel single rear camera and an 8-megapixel front selfie camera. You can also expect to see the renowned “Night Sight” on the new handsets, which uses continual photography to add light to images through software in pitch dark situations.
The upcoming Pixel devices will also run on stock Android Pie with Pixel UI on top. Android Q is also out for beta testing for all Pixel users and although the new handsets are unlikely going to ship with Android Q out-of-the-box, the new Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL would join the Pixel family in being the first to receive Android software updates.
