An air conditioner mechanic was brutally attacked by a gang near Arugandhampoondi in Vellore on Thursday.
Police sources said Sugumar, 26, of Thottapalayam in Vellore was attacked with a sickle by an unidentified gang near the bus stop in Arugandhampoondi around 7 a.m.
Serious injuries
He suffered serious head injuries and on hearing his screams, the locals informed the Vellore North Police, who sent him to a private hospital for treatment.
He was involved in several petty cases earlier and this was the second or third attempt on his life, according to his relatives.
Vellore North Police registered a case and said previous enmity could be the reason behind the attack. Efforts were on to nab the assailants, they said.
