A 25-year-old woman doctor was found dead with her throat slit at her rented accommodation in Ranjit Nagar in central Delhi, the police said on Wednesday. The prime suspect is a doctor who lives in an adjacent room in the same building, they said.
The woman, identified as Garima Mishra, was an MD aspirant and hailed from Gorakhpur. Her body was found in her room located on the third floor of the building. Mishra had completed her MBBS and was preparing for MD. She had been working as a junior resident doctor at Dr. N.C. Joshi Memorial Hospital in Karol Bagh for the past few months, the police said.
The police said they received a call around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday about a woman found dead in Ranjit Nagar.
A police team reached the location and found the body lying in a pool of blood. The body had multiple injuries on the neck, they said, adding that a broken kitchen knife with bloodstains on it was found near the body.
“We were informed by her [victim’s] landlord about the incident. The landlord was alerted by Mishra’s cousin who had gone to her room to check on her as she was not responding to his calls,” said a police officer.
During investigation, it was found that Chandra Prakash Verma, who is also an MD aspirant, and lived in an adjacent room was missing after the incident. Mishra and Dr. Verma, who were preparing for MD examination, used to attend the same coaching in Karol Bagh.
State of panic
“Dr. Verma’s roommate, Vikas, also a doctor, had gone to the temple, and said he had found Dr. Verma in a state of panic when he returned. Dr. Verma told him that he was going to return a book to his batchmate and would come back soon, but did not return. He took his ID card along,” said a police officer.
The deceased’s family said the MD examination is scheduled for June. Her parents had recently visited her room. She had taken leave from the hospital to prepare for her exams. DCP (Central) M.S. Randhawa said a murder case has been registered at Ranjit Nagar police station. “Two police teams are working on the case. The accused will be traced soon. The body was handed over to family after the post-mortem,” he said.
