MUMBAI: Pulled up for signal-jumping, a 35-year-old motorcyclist allegedly manhandled a traffic constable at Vakola on Tuesday.
Mehboob Khan was arrested by Vakola police.
Kurla constable Sonavane (55) sustained minor injuries.
Sonavane, on duty at Raza junction on Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, spotted Khan jumping the Noori Masjid signal around 6.30pm. Sonavane gestured to Khan to halt but he tried to take a sharp turn and flee. The constable ran after him for some distance. An argument broke out when Khan allegedly abused Sonavane. He allegedly grabbed Sonavane by his collar and pushed him. A pillion rider cautioned him against manhandling the constable.
Sonavane was taken to V N Desai Hospital in Santacruz for a check-up, while Khan was hauled to Vakola police station and booked under sections 353, 332 and 504 of IPC. He was produced before a holiday court on Wednesday.
