    "Australia too is in the midst of its federal elections. Voting is compulsory and those who do not vote are fined $20. In case of non-payment, you can be taken to court and liable to be jailed. Seeing the apathy of rich and middle-class voters in urban cities of India, this is worth a try," Kant said.

    BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday accused the BJP and Congress of having a tacit understanding and unitedly working against the SP-BSP alliance.

    The Congressmen think it is not a problem if BJP candidates win elections but SP-BSP alliance candidates should not win polls, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister alleged. 

    "Like BJP, Congress has started talking absurd about the SP-BSP alliance. It is clear that both (Cong and BJP) have a tacit understanding and are contesting against our alliance unitedly," Mayawati said.

    Asserting that the "fascist" Narendra Modi government is on its way out, TMC MP Derek O'Brien says a front of regional political parties will come to power at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections and his party will play the "most important" role in government formation.

    He, however, did not confirm or deny if Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be a contender for the prime minister's post if an anti-BJP front comes to power.

    "After four phases of election, I can confidently say this fascist Narendra Modi government is on its way out. There will be a new government at the Centre which will be driven by regional parties," Brien said.
