GURUGRAM: A 28-year-old tutor was allegedly gagged to death by her husband and parents-in-law demanding dowry in Sector 9A on Tuesday afternoon. The woman’s brother filed a complaint, following which an
FIR has been registered against six members of the family, including her husband, at Sector 9 A police station. Manish, was arrested on Wednesday and police are conducting raids to nab the other family members.
The woman, identified as Hemlata, lived with her husband Manish in a rented accommodation in Sector 9A. Manish works as an assistant operator in the operation theatre of ESI hospital,
Faridabad, while Hemlata was working with a private coaching centre as a tutor.
According to police, on Tuesday afternoon they received a call regarding a woman’s mysterious death. She was brought to Aryan Hospital. When the police reached there, her brother accused the husband and parents-in-law of killing her.
“She was working in a coaching centre and was also pursuing for higher education. Her husband hails from Delhi’s Mundka and ever since they were married, she was being harassed for dowry. On Tuesday, she was gagged to death as marks were found on her neck. I suspect that her husband along with his family have killed her,” Praveen Kumar, Hemlata’s brother, a resident of Khandsa village, said in his complaint.
As per the complaint, an FIR was registered against Manish, his father Dharmbir, mother Gulab Devi, brother Krishan, sister-in-law Anu and neighbour Jainarain under sections 302 (murder), 304-B (dowry death) and 34 (common intention) of
IPC at Sector 9 A police station.
“We have handed over the body to her family after the postmortem,” said inspector Basant Chauhan, SHO, Sector 9 A police station.
