Xiaomi’s standalone brand Redmi is prepping its flagship smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 855. This is also expected to be the first phone from the brand to have a pop-up selfie camera, as revealed in a new teaser video posted by the brand. While we don’t really know what the flagship would be called, an alleged retail box of the supposed Redmi flagship that was leaked online suggested that it might be marketed as ‘Redmi X’ when released. However, Redmi president, Lu Weibing in a Weibo post has quickly denied the same and said that “there will be a better name.“

Redmi, in its teaser video, is simply calling it “flagship,” meaning either the phone doesn’t have a name yet or the company is planning on officially announcing it at the launch. Talking about specifications, rumours suggest the Redmi flagship will pack a 6.39-inch full-HD+ notch-less display. It has been tipped to pack 8GB of RAM and 128GB built-in storage that should be expandable. It is unclear if the phone would come only in one variant. For photography, the phone will reportedly rock a retractable 32-megapixel selfie shooter and a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel primary shooter, an 8-megapixel secondary depth sensor and a third 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens.

The handset is reported to come with wireless charging support, suggesting the flagship could rock a glass back panel. The smartphone is likely to have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security. Lastly, as confirmed by the company’s VP Lu Weibing, the phone will have a 3.5mm audio jack and NFC support. Given the series of hints and teasers from the Redmi’s president himself, we hope the launch might right around the corner.
