A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his father-in-law when he intervened in a fight between the accused and his wife in south Delhi’s Tigri on Wednesday, the police said. The accused has been arrested, they said.

The police said that they received a call from Safdarjung Hospital and were told that an man with a stab injury in his abdomen had been admitted. “We got a call again later and were informed that the man, identified as Dev, had succumbed to injuries around 8 a.m.,” Mr. Kumar said.

When the police visited the crime spot, they found blood on the street in front of the house in Tigri. “Victim Dev’s 21-year-old wife Bhagyashree told the police that her father had killed her husband. Her father, she said, had picked up a fight with her mother after getting drunk and when her husband intervened, her father attacked him with a knife,” the officer said.

Dev got married to Bhagyashree in December 2018, the police said.

The couple had come to visit the woman’s parents on Tuesday night when the incident happened, the police added.

They also said that a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Tigri police station and the accused has been arrested.
