Con couple lures several with fake garment biz, dupes them of Rs 20L

Thane: A con-couple has been booked by the Wagle Estate police allegedly for duping several investors to the tune of Rs 20.70 lakhs, by promising them lucarative interest on their investment.
The police said that the accused identified as --Shailesh Gala and Vandana Gala are residents of Shanti Nagar in Wagle Estate and have cheated as many as 10 investors so far.

According to the complaint filed by one of the victims the cheating happened between October 2017 to January 2019. The couple wooed the victims to invest in their ‘Gala Garments’ which they claimed was an export-import business operational from Thane and Navi Mumbai. No paper work was done as the business was supposed to be done on the basis of ‘trust’, the police said.
“The victims invested in the range of Rs 5 to 10 lakhs and with an aim to lure more investors the accused initially gave some of them interest of Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000,” the police officer said. When after few months when the interest stopped and victims went to ask for their money, the accused Vandana Gala threatened of false molestation case against them and also told them to forget about the invested money, the police said.
