Neenu Chacko, fiancee of
Kevin Joseph who was killed last year, told a court here on Thursday that it was a case of
honour killing. Neenu, who is the fifth witness in the
murder case, said her father Chacko had objected to her relationship with Kevin and was against their marriage as he belonged to a lower caste. Chacko has been arraigned as the fifth accused in the sensational case.
Neenu was accompanied by Kevin’s father to the principal sessions court. Repeating the statement she had given before police, Neenu said the day after she had informed her parents that she moved papers for tying the knot with Kevin, the SI at the Gandhi Nagar police station had asked her, in the presence of her father, with whom she wanted to go. She had replied that she wanted to go with Kevin but her father said the marriage would bring dishonour to the family. She was also told that never think about living happily with Kevin. SI Shibu had held Kevin's neck and pushed him and even asked her to go with her father, she told the court.
The case pertains to the alleged abduction and killing of 23-year-old Kevin from the district in the early hours of May 27, 2018 by a gang led by Shyanu Chacko, Neenu’s brother. Kevin’s body was found in a canal near Thenmala the next day.
