Jack Steven takes another mental health break

St Kilda are set to be without four-time best and fairest Jack Steven for an extended period, with the midfielder to take more time away from football to deal with his mental health problems.

Steven, 29, had already taken time away from the club during pre-season before returning to play the first two matches of the year. He then missed games in rounds three and four, before coming back to play in rounds five and six.

However the Saints announced on Thursday that Steven was set for a prolonged period away from the game

"The club and Jack have been working on managing his health and wellbeing over many months," St Kilda football chief Simon Lethlean said.

"The best option at present for Jack to fully overcome his challenges is to take an extended break away from football.

"We don’t have an exact time frame on how long that will be but the club will continue to provide as much support as possible.

"We ask again that Jack be given the time and privacy to deal with this matter."
