The chp says mario vega of orland was driving northbound just after two o'clock yesterday afternoon when for some reason he left the road in a curve, and struck a woman riding on the far right side of the road.

The car ended up submerged in a canal, but vega managed to get out safely.

The name of the bicyclist hasn't been released because of the severity of her injuries.## chico police arrested a man suspected of raping a woman on the street.

Police say "ishamel smith's" d-n-a was found on the victim when she went to enloe back on march 9th.

The victim said "smith" grabbed her while she was walking in the area of west 20th and broadway streets - before forcing her to the ground and assaulting her.

The medical exam came back with smith's d-n-a on april 22nd.

Officer say smith is a homeless man from los angeles.

He will be extradited back to butte county for prosecution.

### cal fire crews are still working a vegetation fire that sparked up north of chico late yesterday.

The fire - which is being called the meridian - broke out around 4:45 by munjar road.

It burned 50 acres and as of 10 p-m - the last update from cal fire, the fire was 50-percent contained.

Shortly after 11 a-m yeserday the plane crashed carrying three people.
