The police have arrested two persons in connection with an overseas recruitment fraud in Kottayam.
The arrested have been identified as Mathew, 60, and his younger son Thomas Mathew, 32. The police are also on the lookout for Robin Mathew, elder son of Mathew, in connection with the case.
The accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in custody.
As per the case, the accused, through their agency ‘Pheonix Consultants’, had cheated over 250 job-aspirants of several lakhs of rupees by offering them employment visas to various countries, including the U.S. and Canada, and issued fake visas.
When the victims raised a complaint, the accused went into hiding after locking up the office.
During a raid at the agency’s office at SH Mount and houses of the accused, the police had recovered several passports and other documents submitted by the candidates.
