COIMBATORE: A woman quack, who claimed to be an Ayurvedic practitioner, was arrested by the Coimbatore rural police on Wednesday for the death of a pregnant woman. The quack's son, P Karthick, 26, is still on the run.
The accused P Muthulakshmi, 57, of CM Nagar at Vadachittur and her son Karthick tried to abort a fetus of a woman, and the woman died at their centre at Vadachittur two days ago.
Following the death of the woman, Muthulakshmi, who had allegedly offered 2.5 lakh to the family of the deceased, fled.

The victim's family did not initially lodge a complaint but the police came to know about the incident a few days later and made the deceased's son S Marimuthu, 19, a daily wage labourer from Veeramathiamman Kovil Street at Mettuvavi, file a complaint.
A team from Negamam police station on Wednesday picked up Muthlakshmi from Nagapattinam. She was booked under section 314 of the Indian Penal Code.
