Footage From Bear Grylls’ New Nature Series Shows Turtles Fighting One Another for Dominance!

In the wild it seems like it’s everyone for themselves and that includes turtles!

Bear Grylls’ new nature series, Hostile Planet, shows one male turtle battling it out with another for the right to mate with a female turtle.

Footage shows one male turtle biting the other, trying to force it off the female’s back, even going so far as to attack and pin both the male and female on the ocean floor.

This maneuver is highly dangerous according to Grylls.

Turtles use up their oxygen faster in a vicious pursuit like this.

“A stressed turtle can drown in minutes.” The pair try to fight off the intruder who continues his assault but when the aggressive male stops for a moment, The female makes a break for it, surfacing and gasping for air.

*gasping noise* Divers spent about a month in the water, filming for 6 hours at a time for the series.

Cameraman Mateo Willis told SWNS just how much footage is used for the nature show.

“Filming the series is a labour of love.

For every minute of footage aired, another 800 have been left on the cutting room floor.” Wow, now I wanna see a show about the hardships of editing!
