Urgent recall for the Mazda 3 over fears the windscreen wipers could stop working in heavy rain

Mazda Australia has issued an urgent recall for the Mazda 3 over fears the front windscreen wipers could be defective in heavy rain, causing an accident. 

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission issued the recall on May 2 after it was discovered the Mazda 3 (BM, BN) MY2015-2017 could be defective. 

'On the affected vehicles, the front windscreen wipers may become inoperative due to a defective relay contained within the Front Body Control Module,' the recall states.

'Drivers may experience reduced or poor visibility while driving due to inoperative front windscreen wipers, possibly causing an accident.' 

Mazda Australia will be contacting all customers who have purchased the models sold between 2015 and 2017. 

'Customers will be advised to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for the replacement of the Front Body Control Module at no charge,' the recall read.

The recall only applies to Mazda 3's sold between July 20, 2015 and July 11, 2017. 

Australia's vehicle standards are applied through the Australian Design Rules, the department also conducts 'safety investigations and monitors vehicle recalls' for the ACCC. 

Owners of affected vehicles should immediately contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411 or check Mazda's Vehicle Identification Number look-up tool by visiting www.mazda.com.au/recalls. 

A VIN is a unique number on each car, the location of which can be found in the owner's manual.
