A woman, A. Malarkodi, 45, was hacked to death and her nephew, T. Suresh, 30, of Meenambalpuram sustained serious bleeding injuries when a history-sheeter attacked them over a petty quarrel, at S. Alangulam under Koodal Pudur police station limits on Thursday evening.
Police said the accused ‘Arival’ Suresh, a history sheeter with Jaihindpuram police station limits, had come to S. Alangulam in search of a woman, Mahalakshmi, with whom he had an illegal affair.
When the woman was not found at home, the accused had gone to Malarkodi’s house. He had asked Malarkodi about her whereabouts. When she said that she did not know, he insisted on knowing where Mahalakshmi had gone. At this point Suresh had intervened and asked him to leave the house.
After a wordy quarrel, the accused pulled out a sharp weapon and attacked the two. Malarkodi was killed on the spot.
The Koodal Pudur police are on the lookout for the accused.
