Udhagamandalam: To create awareness about the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR), a one-day photo and
painting exhibition was held at the Ooty railway station on Wednesday.
Over 65 photos and paintings depicting the Nilgiris in the past and NMR were on display.
Jyotsna Prasad, a rail enthusiast from Chennai, showcased the relevance of NMR and rail heritage through his 15 paintings. Over 50 photographs of V Mathimaran, who is from the district, depicted the NMR in different stages, the life of indigenous people, and the history of the Nilgiris K Natarajan, founder managing trustee of Heritage Steam Chariot Trust, which organized the event in association with the Salem division of the Southern Railway, said, “It was encouraging that almost all the tourists who came to Ooty railway station to board NMR or in NMR from other stations visited the exhibition.”
Jayaseelan, a tourist from Chennai said, “The exhibition on the Nilgiri Mountain Railways was so educative. If the authorities continue the exhibition for a few more days, other tourists could also enjoy it.”
