A resident of Pandurangapuram area was allegedly duped of ₹64,000 in a lottery related to a hair product which he had purchased online.
According to the Cyber Crime Police, G. Durga Prasad had ordered a hair product through a link appeared on his Facebook wall.
He made the payment on delivery of the product.
Un‘lucky’ draw
Mr. Durga Prasad allegedly received a phone call saying that that he had won ₹12.80 lakh in a lucky draw related to his online purchase.
“Mr. Durga Prasad was told that he needed to submit his bank account details for claiming the lucky draw amount and he obliged. The fraudsters had allegedly withdrawn about ₹64,000 from his bank account in phases. Realising that he was cheated, Mr. Durga Prasad approached the Cyber Crime Police on Tuesday,” Cyber Crime Inspector V. Gopinath told The Hindu.
A case has been registered and further nvestigation is on, Mr. Gopinath added.
