Cavin Johnson's job safe at AmaZulu

2019-05-01 14:12

Cape Town - AmaZulu general manager Lunga Sokhela says coach Cavin Johnson's job at Usuthu is safe for next season despite some uncertain form in 2018/19.

Usuthu have lost five of their last eight Premiership matches leading to some speculation regarding the future of Johnson.

With that said, the club have 30 points and appear to be on the verge of safety if they can pick up points in their final two matches against Black Leopards and Bloemfontein Celtic.

In addition, the Durban-based outfit would be closer to a top eight finish had they not been deducted six points by FIFA for unlawfully terminating the contract of Phineas Nambandi in 2014.

Speaking to the Kickoff website, Sokhela said: "The coach understands the pressure and he knows next season we have to improve.

"I've said it before, we do not have plans to change the coach, we already spoke about sorting out our defence which has been our biggest challenge this campaign."

AmaZulu could guarantee their survival in South Africa's top flight if they beat relegation-threatened Black Leopards at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
