Responding to the High Court order, Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday said she would examine the judgment and take a stand.
“We are examining the judgment. After which we shall take a view. Meanwhile, we are still in the Model Code of Conduct. Files which require Lt. Governor’s approval such as service matters, promotions, appointments, disciplinary matters and financial sanctions for grants in aid are being received and examined on merits of each case. The weekly disposal is also placed on record as was the earlier practice,” she said in a message to reporters.
Lt. Governor said the Union Territory deserved the “best, utmost integrity, accountability and careful financial management.
“I wish Puducherry well. Most of all people here deserve quick decision making with accessible governance,” she said.
Earlier judgment
She also posted in WhatsApp groups a judgment given by the then Chief Justice of Madras High Court Indira Banerjee on March 22, 2018, which said unlike the President of India or Governor of a State, the administrator of Union Territory has powers to act independently irrespective of the advice given by the council of ministers headed by the Chief Minister.
