Kanpur: Though no suicide note has been recovered yet, the police on the basis of a ‘message’ scribbled in a diary suspect that IIT-Roorkee graduate and coaching owner Mohd Shahwan first killed his wife and then committed suicide by consuming poison on Tuesday.
The police are also investigating the case with other possible angles. They are also checking the CCTV footage and not ruling out anything and have sent the diary to forensic and handwriting experts.
The note in the diary, probably written by Mohd Shahwan — reflecting his agony and pain, including how his life had become hell after his marriage to Namra.
“It seems Shahwan may have been written the note prior to killing his wife and thereafter himself resorted to the extreme step. In the note, Shahwan talks about the mental harassment he was subjected to by his second wife Namra. Shahwan mentioned how Namra, a native of Unnao, had forcibly entered his life in 2016 while pursuing her education in the city. Despite the fact that he told her about his marital status and that he was a father of two children, she didn’t listen to him. She finally asked him to give divorce to his first wife Simrana and later married him,” said CO Kalyanpur Ajay Kumar.
Police further said that Shahwan had also mentioned about ‘mehr’ (dower) of Rs 20 crore fixed during his marriage with Namra on September 27, 2018,” the CO added.
‘Mehr’ is a mandatory payment in the form of money or possession, paid by the groom to the bride at the time of marriage, which legally becomes her property.”
After marriage, Shahwan’s son used to stay with with them, but as per the note, Namra even used to severely harass his child following which he then sent back his son to his first wife’s place. The CO added that Namra thereafter continued to abuse him, harass him mentally and even hit him on multiple occasions.
“Shahwan also wrote in the note that soon after the wedding, Namra also started exhibiting odd behaviour, like she used to sleep during day and stayed awake in the night and not let him sleep and even went on to hit him physically,” said the officer.
He further wrote that now he don’t want to live anymore and wished to give all his wealth to his first wife and children after his death, the officer added.
Police said a local enquiry revealed that the couple fought frequently over domestic issues.

To recall, Namra was found murdered at her apartment in Keshavpuram in Kalyanpur police area of the city on Tuesday.
Shahwan, who was found in an unconscious condition in a Skoda car some 45 km away in Billhaur, succumbed after being admitted to Ursula Horseman hospital.
