Wynn Resorts fined $35 million by Massachusetts Gaming Commission

Mike sotEverett City Councilor MikeMcLaughlinis breathing a lot easiertonight-- a green light from theGaming commission means Encorecan open in June bringing withit roughly 5- thousand jobsMikeBut the "go ahead" comes at asteepcost for Wynn Resorts--including a $35 million fine..A $500,000individual fine for CEO MattMaddox..And Discrimination-Harassment training for allemployees.The commission saysthe penalties fit theviolations-- citingWynn's significant andrepetitivefailures related to sexualmisconductallegations against founderSteveWynn.In a statement-- thecommission wrote-- "While theCompany has made great stridesin altering that system, thisCommission remainsconcerned by the past failuresand deficiencies." Thecommission took particular issuewith Maddox--ordering him to undergoextensive leadership coaching.Tonight,a spokesman for WYNN says thecompany is reviewing it's nextsteps.Local leaders are counting on aJune 23rd openinTonight the Governor released astatement saying he " expectsgaming regulators to stringentlyenforce the conditions placed onWynn."
