DAV college bags best NSS unit award second year in row

CHANDIGARH: DAV college , sector 10 has bagged the best NSS unit award from Punjab University second year in row. Every year, the students admitted to college enrol in the NSS unit. Principal Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma congratulated the entire team of the NSS unit. “In continuing with the tradition of Swami Dyanand, the DAV College in Sector-10, Chandigarh has a very active NSS Unit since its inception in 1958. It is a matter of great privilege that the college is teaching the students to serve the society and be good humans,” he said,
The NSS unit conducts a large number of national and state activities and camps. The college NSS unit has adopted village Dhanas. Suman kapur, NSS program officer said, “Every year the state liaison officer of State NSS Cell of UT Chandigarh gives a number of social activities to colleges to do. Some colleges take them and some not as it is not compulsory but our college accept all the tasks and complete all of them without a miss with great passion.”
She said that this year college undertook a number of activities which include anti-malaria campaign , awareness of poshan (good nutrition) scheme, green marathon, anti-drug campaign, participation in workshop on traffic rules , cleanliness drive etc. She said that many students also participated in Seven Days and Seven Night component, where students while living in the campus day and night participate in the social activities for a week.
“We have a 24 hour helpline and our NSS WhatApp group catering to need of emergency blood donation requirements, whereby the volunteers have been actively donating blood to the emergency victims in PGI, Fortis and Government hospitals in the town. This special effort of the NSS volunteers of the college needs to be applauded so that they can more enthusiastically work for the benefit of the society in the near future,” said Dr. Kulvir Sra Dhindsa, another program officer.
Third officer Dr. Raman Kamboj also added that apart from the volunteers participating in the national and state levels camps, the NSS DAV College has observed all the international and national days and weeks in the college campus. Special efforts were made on Swachhat Bharat Abhiyan through rallies, street plays and poster competition around campus and our adopted village Dhanas.
NSS students talked about their activities excitedly. Lovish Gupta, student , who participated in National Integration camps both the years said that he learnt a lot on various issues such as health, environment, national security etc while attending these seminars and workshops during the camps. Pankaj Jain, another NSS said that the fond memories of donating money earned by selling candles made by blind children back to them before Diwali eve will remain etched in his mind.
Disha Nagpal and Chiraj Arora who participated in adventure camp at Pong Dam said that they have become more confident and fearless after attending the adventure activities during the camp. Nagpal said that NSS will always remain an inseparable part of her life.
