The Hyderabad police filed a charge sheet against prime accused K. Rakesh Reddy and 11 others in the sensational murder of NRI businessman and managing director of the defunct Telugu news channel, Express TV, Chigurupati Jayaram.
The charge sheet filed in a local court, it was understood, names two police officers for allegedly concealing the murder.
When contacted, top brass of the city police refused to divulge details of the police officers accused in the case. “It’s a very sensitive case and now sub judice. I don’t want to comment on it unless I go through the entire charge sheet,” said the top cop.
However, another official associated with the investigation confirmed that two police officers were made accused in the first charge sheet and they were likely to mention another officer in a supplementary charge sheet, to be filed soon.
The officer said that a 388-page charge sheet was filed in a local court with the statement of as many as 70 witnesses, apart from call data records and video footage of surveillance cameras.
“Jayaram’s niece Shrika Chowdary is one of the witnesses in the case. We examined more than 300 persons while 70 were taken as witness,” said the police.
“Kidnapping, confinement, extortion and murder of Jayaram were main charges against Rakesh Reddy,” they said.
