3 happening this afternoon, indiana politicians, friends and family will gather at the statehouse to honor former u.s. senator birch bayh.bayh died in march at 91-years-old.

3universities all over the country, purdue included, would not be the same if it weren't for bayh.right now in a time when female students are thriving, they have the former senator to thank.

3 title ix provides all groups equal access to educational opportunities.that includes sports.the law's passage came when women earned less than 10 percent of all medical and law degrees.and now, thanks to bayh, more than half of students receiving bachelors áand graduate degrees are women.and one in two high school girls now play sports.

Purdue president mitch daniels is also remembering bayh being a co-author in the bayh-dole act of 1980.that allows universities to earn patents for inventions through its research.
