Ludhiana: Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) on Tuesday faced a setback when its state general secretary and in-charge of women wing Harpreet Kaur left the fold and joined the Congress brigade at a function held at Ladhowal.
Kaur was welcomed in the presence of Congress candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu, MLA Kuldeep Vaid and Atam Nagar in-charge Kamaljit Singh Karwal.
Bittu assured giving due respect and place in the party to Kaur and said, “Due to their arrogant behaviour, Bains brothers are losing their supporters, while workers and leaders of the party are deserting them. They have ignored their respective constituencies in their tenure and did nothing for development.”
Meanwhile, Kaur vowed her support to Bittu and claimed that LIP candidate Simarjit Singh Bains will have to face an embarrassing defeat in these elections.
Vaid and Karwal appealed to the gathering to cast their votes in favour of Bittu so that speedy development of villages is undertaken. Other Congress leaders including Gurdev Singh Lapra, Inder Mohan Singh Kadian, Gurpreet Singh Khurana and Parmindre Singh Soma were also present on this occasion.
