Newly-wed woman found dead at in-laws’ house

Kanpur: A 19-year-old woman, hailing from Kanpur Dehat distrct, was found dead at her in-laws’ house barely two months after her marriage, on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Kajal, lived with her husband Hari Om (27) and in-laws in Mani Kothi village of Bidhoona in Auraiya district. They got married on Februray 23 this year.
Kajal’s husband and in-laws have been absconding after her death.
A case has been registered following a complaint by Kajal’s father Phool Singh, a resident of Kahinjiri area of Kanpur Dehat district. “Phool Singh alleged that her husband and in-laws were demanding dowry,” said inspector Kotwali Sudhir Singh.
“The incident came to light after the woman’s parents received a call on Tuesday morning. The caller told them that their daughter was unwell. They rushed to their daughter’s house and found her lying dead in her room,” said Singh. They immediately alerted the Kotwali Police.
The police reached the spot and after conducting preliminary investigations sent the body to mortuary for postmortem examination.

Kajal’s in-laws were found absconding since the incident which raised suspicion over her parents’ accusations of harassment over dowry demands.
“Hari Om and his family members were not satisfied with the dowry given to them. They allegedly used to harass her after marriage,” said the official adding that, “A case under sections 304-B (dowry death) and 498-A (husband or relative of husband subjecting woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged against her husband and in-laws with Bidhoona police station. Raids are underway to make their arrest possible.”
