Samajwadi Party functionary Rakesh Yadav
AGRA: Samajwadi Party functionary Rakesh Yadav was allegedly shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in Harduaganj area of Aligarh late night on Tuesday.
Yadav, a property dealer and the party’s in charge of Baroli assembly constituency, was shot from a point-blank range on his temple while he was on his way home in Ahir Pada area. The incident took place around 10.30pm, just about 70-80 meters away from his house, police said.
Aligarh SSP Aakash Kulhari told TOI that a case of murder had been registered against six persons, including Subhash Yadav, former zila parishad chairman and Samajwadi party, Sonu, Kuldeep, and Ravi and two unidentified persons on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s elder brother Lalit Yadav. However, no arrest has been made so far.

According to sources, Subhash Yadav had fallen out with Rakesh ever since the party had given ticket to Rakesh’s elder brother, Pratap Yadav, in zila parishad chairman’s election in Aligarh in December 2017. Subhash contested elections as an independent after the party refused to field him. However, both of them had lost the elections.
Police said that further investigations were on and all possible angles were being looked into.
