It’s Hard Not To Be Astonished By The Bugatti Chiron Grand Sport

More than three years have passed since Bugatti unveiled the Chiron at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and there’s still no Grand Sport, i.e. open-top, version on the horizon.

At this point, a convertible doesn’t seem to be imminent. However, CarNewsNetwork has nevertheless imagined a Chiron with its roof down.

The changes are simple; well, as simple as such a model can be, and are accompanied by a ‘What if?’ caption on the Instagram post. There’s no denying that a Chiron Grand Sport would sell out in no time, in spite of its multi-million dollar price tag, so, just like the Veyron, it would be reasonable to expect a Chiron-based model, too.

Despite that, it’s no secret that the next step for Bugatti, after the Chiron, Chiron Sport, Divo, and the one-off La Voiture Noire that was made for Cristiano Ronaldo, is a completely different vehicle. In a surprising turn of events, it appears that it might take the form of a crossover-like coupe based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo architecture, and most likely use a version of the Lamborghini Urus’ platform.

This runs contrary to CEO Stephan Winkelmann’s statements, who a few months ago was adamant that “there will be no SUV from Bugatti”, as it “would not do justice to the brand or its history”.

Which brings us back to the Chiron: in the same statement, Winkelmann also denied that they would go for a top speed run because the Chiron is more than mere outright speed. So, it seems Bugatti is reevaluating its future plans – and we wouldn’t be surprised if an open-top Chiron is among them.
