Procedure hassles denied us salary: transferred govt college teachers

Coimbatore: Government college teachers who were transferred for taking part in the Jactto-Geo protests in January said most of them have not received salaries for the past three months, or have received only part of the salary. This was because there was no common procedure across the government colleges in the state to issue last pay certificates (LPCs), which had led to hassles, they said.
A total of 15 teachers from government arts colleges across the state were suspended for their involvement in the protests and later their suspension was revoked and they were transferred. Teachers said while for the suspension period from late January to February, some of them had been given half the pay and some others full pay, leading to confusions.
An assistant professor who was transferred said he had been given only 10 day’s pay since January 22. Though he had reported to work by January-end at the college he was transferred to, he was not paid from then, he said.
An associate professor who was transferred said while he reported to duty at the college he was transferred to on February 27 and had worked till the end of the semester. He was paid for April, but he did not receive salary for March, he said.
In some cases, colleges were delaying to issue last pay certificates, which was essential to get paid from the colleges they were transferred to, they said. “Even if the last pay certificate is given, there is no uniformity in the format, which has in some cases led to tussles between two colleges. The college which the teacher got transferred to says the format is wrong, but the college which issued it maintains it is right,” said a teacher.

Transferred teachers said after representations, officials of the directorate of collegiate education had directed the colleges to make the process smooth, but still there were hassles.
Repeated calls to officials of the directorate of collegiate education went unanswered.
