The Salem city police conducted a redressal camp at a private hall here on Wednesday.

According to the police, petitioners who were not satisfied with police action on their complaints given in January this year attended the petition redressal camp and senior police officials, including deputy police commissioners, looked into the complaints and provided necessary assistance.

The camp was an outcome of a reception and complaints feedback system implemented in the Salem city police limits.

City Police Commissioner K. Shankar said, “after the reception system was implemented registration of complaints in Salem city limits has increased three times. From January till April this year, we have registered 5,500 complaints and each and every complaint details are digitally recorded and the city police office receives those details immediately. Every complainant is contacted after two hours and their feedback is sought. Later, if the complainant’s feedback is unsatisfactory regarding action taken on the issue then a re-investigation is conducted. If they are still unsatisfied, then we invite them to redressal camps.”

Mr. Shankar added that mostly cases related to money transactions, land issues, family quarrels and civil cases are the ones identified at such camps.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Law and Order) P.Thangadurai said, “in January, out of the 807 complaints received, 112 complainants said that they were unhappy with the action and a re-investigation was ordered.

Based on that, 46 complainants said that they are still unsatisfied and their grievances would be redressed at the camp.”

Legal advisers were also present to offer legal assistance to the petitioners during the event.
