Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) founder Masood Azhar, who was declared a global terrorist on Wednesday, has had a history of tying up with the Taliban to carry out attacks on India and Afghanistan. The revelation comes through the fresh dossier prepared by the Indian government on Masood.
The dossier states Masood has broadened JeM's operational focus by joining the Afghan Taliban in attacks. It also stated he has intensified operations against India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. "Talba-A-Murabitoon, the students' movement for ideological and geographical defence of Islam in Pakistan, along with other wings of AL Rehmat Trust and Preaching Wing, regularly organises events to urge people to wage war and support action against India," the dossier said.
The JeM also organises events under banners like the Bazim-e-Yousafi, Majlis Wursa-e-Shoda, Jammu-Wa-Kashmir, Majlis Dawat-Al-Quran, etc. In addition, it seeks funds in the name of killed terrorists to radicalise and motivate youth to join their various conferences.
Accordingly, a JeM terror camp in Balakot was being run as a madrassa, with several students residing there. The files say there is an increase in extolment for Jihadi training courses as well. They also say the JeM has been organising a number of fund collection drives, with the sole purpose of Jihad.
In addition, Masood also overlooks a swimming course of JeM, called Samudri Jihad, started in Bahawalpur in Pakistan. This course is meant to enhance the maritime capabilities of the cadre and ensure they can carry out attacks via sea as well.
Given Azhar's elevation in the terror heirarchy, he also inducted his brothers, brothers-in-law, and other family members, into the JeM, in order to have full control over the functioning and financing of the group.
