Australian client gets fake email, city firm goes to cops

Gurgaon: Fraudsters allegedly sent a fake email to an Australian client of a city-based automobile parts manufacturing company.
The email, which bore the signatures of the company’s managing director (MD), claimed that another firm would now handle its financial transactions and all payments should be paid to the new firm.
A case was registered at Cybercrime police station on Monday.

SABOHEMA Automotive Pvt Ltd, which operates from Khandsa Road, manufactures shock absorbers and other parts for trucks, trailer and other vehicles. “We got to know on April 15 that one of our customers based in Australia had recently received a fake email. The email stated that our company has transferred the ownership of all its trade receivables (amounts billed by a business to its customers when it delivers goods or services to them) to another company, Rong Tong Sihai Import and Export Trade Company Ltd, and asked our customer to make payments in Rong Tong’s account,” SABOHEMA legal head Robin Kumar Chawla told police in his complaint filed on April 20.
After a preliminary investigation, An FIR was registered against Rong Tong and the fraudsters, who haven’t been identified yet, under Section 66C (identity theft) of IT Act at Cybercrime police station.
