The TRS leaders who visited Hajipur after the killings of teenage girls surfaced on April 26, had to face embarrassing questions from the villagers on Wednesday.
Aler MLA Gongidi Sunitha and Bhongir MP Bura Narsaiah Goud, who were at the house of 18-year-old victim Manisha to condole the family, were asked why work on the bridge that connects Hajipur to Bhuvanagiri has remained incomplete. The villagers contented that if the bridge was completed, the killings of the girls would have been avoided, who were given lift by accused Marri Srinivas Reddy on their way back home from Bommalaramaram. They complained that a quick police response and better connectivity would have ensured girls’ safety.
Along with former Minister and TRS leader Uma Madhava Reddy was her son Alimineti Sandeep Reddy, who gave ₹25,000 to each of the victim’s family.
Ms. Sunitha told the villagers that immediate changes would not be possible as poll code was in force, but assured them that the situation would be taken to the notice of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Telangana Jana Samithi chief M. Kodandaram, who condoled the grieving families, said the party would stand by them for justice, and would work for required amenities to make the village safer.
Congress senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao gave ₹10,000 to each of the victim families and assured them of justice.
Meanwhile, the Yadadri police produced the accused, Srinivas Reddy, before the Bhongir court, which remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody. The accused was transferred to Warangal central prison.
