Mangaluru: Personnel of
Bantwal Rural police station on Tuesday
recovered four
cows and arrested four people in connection with cases of cattle theft registered in three police stations under Dakshina Kannada district and Mangaluru City police units respectively. Superintendent of police (SP) B M Laxmi Prasad named the accused as
Imran, 31, of Ammemar of Pudu village in Bantwal,
Zainuddin, 22, also of Ammemar, Hidayathulla, 24, and
Farooq, both from Kumapanamajalu in Pudu village. Police seized a Maruti Ritz car allegedly used by the quartet to carry out the crime, valued at Rs 3.5 lakh. The value of cows rescued has been estimated at Rs 90,000.
Laxmi Prasad said cases of cattle theft have been registered against the accused in Bantwal Rural, Bantwal Town, Vittal, Punjalkatte, Mangaluru Rural, Konaje, Kavoor, Ullal, Somwarpete, Kushalnagar, Sakleshpur, Bajpe, Madikeri and Shanivarasanthe police stations in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, respectively. They have also been accused of being involved in theft, assault and rioting cases, he said, adding the accused who were produced before the court have since been remanded in judicial custody. The SP lauded the role played by Sharan Gowda, circle police inspector, Bantwal, and his staff in arresting the accused and solving cases of cattle theft.
