Sickening footage has emerged of a man wearing a hi-vis vest and a black hoodie choking a dog. 

The man was caught on camera holding the dog by his neck with one hand while grabbing the animal's nose with other on a street in Brompton in Adelaide's inner-north.

A group of women, including the one filming the incident, are heard begging the man to let the dog go.

'It's only a dog man,' the man is heard saying in the footage, posted by 7News on Wednesday. 

'I've been attacked five times in the last year.' 

'You absolutely cannot treat the dog like that … he's scared,' one woman said.

The dog attempted to break free only for the man to pull him up from ground by his mouth, frightening the onlookers.

'Please don't hurt him! This could be someone's family dog,' one woman said.  

The man is then seen holding the dog to the ground with his knee. 

The RSPCA is investigating the incident, but said it does not comment on specific cases.
