An electrician died after he was allegedly pushed off a terrace in central Delhi’s Kala Mahal when he confronted his 23-year-old friend for ‘molesting’ his minor daughter, the police said on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M. S. Randhawa said the accused was arrested from the same area within a few hours.
During early hours
On Monday, at 4.30 a.m., the police received a call stating that a 40-year-old victim had fallen off from a five-storey building.
He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
During investigation, it was found that on Sunday night, the electrician’s daughter was unwell and after a lot of requests, she told her mother that the victim’s friend, a contractor, had molested her on several occasions.
Recently, he had again molested her when she was alone at home, she allegedly told her mother.
On this, the 11-year-old’s father got enraged and called the contractor to come to his place.
“The contractor used to help the victim get jobs and for this, he often visited his house. The family also treated him as their own,” said an officer.
The incident happened when the electrician took the accused to the building’s terrace to discuss the matter.
An argument broke out when the electrician confronted him with his daughter’s allegations.
The electrician’s wife in her complaint told the police that she rushed to the terrace after hearing the argument. She found fighting and tried to intervene when the accused pushed her and she fell on the floor.
“The contractor tried to flee the spot. When the electrician tried to nab him, the accused pushed him when he lost balance and fell off the building. As the woman screamed for help, the contractor fled the building,” said the officer.
The DCP said the accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 304 [culpable homicide not amounting to murder].
“He has also been charged for allegedly molesting a minor girl and indulging in objectionable acts,” Mr. Randhawa added.
