Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has explained the club's future rests on promoting youth as well as bringing more mobility and quality into the team.

Wits were favourites for the Premiership title for the first half of the season but endured a slump in form which has seen them fall out of contention behind co-leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Hunt has been with the Clever Boys since 2013 during which time they have claimed three trophies - namely the MTN8, the Premiership title as well as the Telkom Knockout.

Nonetheless, the 54-year-old believes his squad have room for improvement ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "I think we're a little bit overloaded in areas and under in areas, you know? I think when I first got to the club we needed to get balance right.

"We came third the first season, third the second season, second and then first, so there was natural progression.

"Then we broke the team down and had a disaster, even though we won a trophy and made huge money by selling players, which is our game, so you need to look at our youth and reinvest.

'The biggest mistake was that we let our team get old together last year, and I think that affected us. Once we got a bit more legs back in the team we were better. That's the focus, get more legs."
