Mysuru: Waste from neighbouring
Kerala continues to haunt residents of
Mysuru. This time rexine materials were found dumped in huge quantity next to a water body in Kaggalipura village of T Narasipura taluk.
Residents were upset over the pollution and some of them have taken objections to it questioning both local elected representatives and the authorities concerned.
Karnataka State Pollution Control Board authorities have held local resident Mohammed Hussain responsible for dumping of waste that was originally brought from Kerala nearly a year ago. Then he had claimed that the waste was being taken to a rice mill near Kaggalipura village. A case was slapped against him which is being heard in a Mysuru court.
Similarly, waste was found dumped in Jayapura hobli by him. “Hussain is trying to dispose of the waste that he had collected a year ago from Kerala. He was selling the waste rexine to alemane (jaggery-making unit) to be used for fire to generate more heat than wood. The case is under way since a year,” said Yathish, environment engineer, Mysuru rural division.
Yathish said KSPCB will write a letter to the jurisdictional police asking them to book Hussain under provisions of IPC for trying to pollute the environment. He said he will send a letter to police on Wednesday.
Earlier, city pollution control board authorities had successfully sent two truckloads of waste brought to Mysuru from Kerala back to where from it was brought.
Somanathpura GP president Preetham told TOI that it has come to their notice that a person is responsible for the pollution. “We have issued a notice to the rice mill owner where the waste was brought and then dumped. Kaggalipura village is part of Somanathapura GP and we have taken all measures to tackle such issues,” he said.
