Stocks, commodities, forex, bond markets shut
Markets are closed on Wednesday on account of Maharashtra Day.
NEW DELHI: India's stock exchanges, forex and bond markets are closed on Wednesday on account of Maharashtra Day. Commodity exchanges will remain shut in the morning session but will resume trade in the evening.
Globally, stock markets across Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Spain, Italy, France, Hong Kong, among others, are shut for the day to commemorate the Labour Day.
At the time of writing of this report, Brent crude futures ruled at $71.65 a barrel, down 41 cents, or 0.6 per cent, from their last close.
Among top developments, China and the US began their latest round of trade talks in Beijing. And all eyes were on the outcome of Fed policy review due later in the day.
In overnight trade on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 38.52 points, or 0.15 per cent, to 26,592. The S&P500 index gained 2.8 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 2,945, while the Nasdaq Composite index dropped 54.01 points, or 0.66 per cent, to 8,095.
Back home, the rupee appreciated for the second straight session on Tuesday to close higher by 46 paise at 69.56 against the US dollar as crude oil prices retreated from six-month high levels and the greenback weakened against global rivals.
The BSE Sensex staged a 280-point recovery on Tuesday to close marginally lower after a big deep earlier in the day. The 30-stock pack settled 36 points down at 39,032. NSE barometer Nifty ended the day a tad below the 11,750 mark at 11,748, down 7 points.
