Bus driver carrying EVMs booked for drunken driving in Palghar

MUMBAI: A Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus driver on Wednesday was arrested for drunken driving while transporting Electronic Voting Machines ( EVMs) to the counting centre in Jawahar taluka of Palghar district on Monday.
The driver Yogesh Gawari (38) was assigned the job of driving the ST bus carrying the EVMs and other election related equipments and documents from Mokhada to Jawhar, to be kept in safe custody after polling ended on April 29.
When the bus neared the Khodala ghats, a cop on escort duty in the bus found that Gawari was driving recklessly.
The policeman asked Gawari to halt the bus. Gawari was send for medical test and he was found to be drunk behind the wheels.

The Mokhada police on Wednesday booked him under Section 279 (rash driving), Section 85(1)(2) of the Bombay Prohibition Act, and Section 134 of the Representation of People Act,1951.
The EVMs were transported to the destination in another bus. The counting of votes will be held on May 23.
