Noida: The UP government has issued a notification for
land acquisition in Dalelpur
village, across the Yamuna river, for the dedicated western
freight corridor project. The 1,504-km-long route aims to connect Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai via Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat, and reduce unit cost of transportation by speeding up freight train operations.
Dalelpur residents said there has been no development in the village, and they now hope this project will bring some job opportunities for the youths. It is the same village from where people travelled by boat to cast their votes this time.
In fact, Indian Railways is developing two dedicated freight corridors, one from Delhi to Mumbai, and the other from Delhi to Kolkata, which are termed as western and eastern dedicated freight corridors (DFCs). The eastern
corridor is 1,843-km-long and the civil contracts for both the eastern and the western corridors are worth Rs 51,906 crore.
The UP department of revenue’s notification for acquisition of .2381 hectares in
Dalelpur village has been welcomed by residents.
Neeraj Tyagi, a local resident, said the government had acquired some land in 2014. “They had acquired the land and started the project development. But the movement of trucks damaged our road connecting Dalelpur to Faridabad. We hope the freight corridor project will bring some development work for us,” he said.
Traffic on the western corridor would comprise of goods from Mumbai port to northern India, specially Delhi and Noida. The trains will also bring in items like food grains, salt, coal, iron, steel and cement. It will introduce time-tabled freight services and guaranteed transmit time. Noida will also export electronic goods and other items through the same corridor.
Narendra Bhooshan, the CEO of Greater Noida Authority, said the dedicated freight corridors are developed by the ministry of railways. “We do not have information about this project. But we believe there will be development and traffic movement in Dadri and Greater Noida once the freight corridor becomes operational. We are simultaneously developing an integrated industrial township, a multi-modal transport hub and a multi-model logistic hub in Greater Noida,” he said.
The corridor is expected to be fully operational by 2020. Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is developing the two corridors.
