KOLKATA: A new app-cab platform is set to start operations in Kolkata from May 7, throwing a challenge to other operators, such as Ola and Uber. With the promise of no-surge pricing, Vikash Gupta, CEO of My Obey Cabs, said compared to most of the operational app cabs here, the new aggregator would offer cheaper fares and the driver-partners would also get higher share of revenue.

He pointed out that 8,000-odd city cabs, which already ran on other platforms, had come on board with Obey. "The fare will be that of an AC metered taxi, Rs 18.75/km. There will be no hidden cost," said Kaushik Basu, regional head of My Obey Cab, which has launched services in Lucknow.
These cabs will be the first to install CCTV cameras in the vehicles as mandated by the transport department. "Each vehicle has to conform to the passengers' safety rules," Gupta said. "We will also introduce electric vehicles soon."
