Ludhiana: Taking note of a complaint against a PCR cop, who allegedly misbehaved with two residents of Madhopuri area, deputy commissioner of police Ashwani Kapur marked an inquiry into the incident on Tuesday.
Two residents also alleged that cops refused to take their complaint against their colleague when they went to the police station to report the matter.
In their complaint, Manu Jiv, 35, and Karan Sain, 34, alleged that at 11pm on Sunday, they along with two other friends were standing at a cigarette vend in Sarabha Nagar market when a cop on a PCR bike stopped at the vend to buy something. In the meantime, Karan asked another friend if he too wanted cigarettes. The cop who was drunk thought that they were mocking at him and got furious.
He started hurling abuses at them and even threatened to put them behind the bars, the complainants alleged. When others tried to intervene, the cop called his colleague from the PCR. However, he too admitted that the cop was under the influence of liquor and tried to pacify them.
He later took along the cop in the PCR van. The complainants said later when they reached division number 5 police station to lodge a complaint, duty officer ASI Rashpal Singh did not take their complaint.
On Tuesday, both met DCP Kapur with their complaint, who marked a probe to the ACP (Civil Lines) Mandeep Singh.
Inspector Goldy Virdi, SHO, division number 5 police station, meanwhile claimed that the allegations levelled in the complaint were false and the CCTV cameras did not indicate that anyone misbehaved with the complainants.
DCP Ashwani Kapur said the allegations would be verified through an inquiry.
