TRICHY: Three
youths were caught red-handed here on Tuesday while injecting diluted painkiller to get a high. One of them admitted to have sold the drugs to students in some leading colleges here.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police led by sub-inspector A Baskar of the Cantonment police station visited the backside of
National College hostel in Karumandapam on Tuesday afternoon and found three youths in possession of the drugs.
The youths were identified as S Kaja Mohideen, 22, of New Raja Colony, P Vinod, 25 of Pidari Ammal Kovil Street and S Yuren Chand, 21 of Sethuraman Pillai Colony. They were sitting in a car when police found them. Kaja was found injecting the drug while the two others were looking on.
The police surrounded them and seized seven numbers of Tapentadol 50 mg (an analgesic), two empty syringes, one drug-filled syringe, a plastic cup used for mixing the tablet with sterile water, empty sterile water and Rs 2,000 cash from them and the car.
Kaja used to get the drug from Puducherry for Rs 250 (for 10 tablets) and sell them to the
college students and others in
Trichy for Rs 700 for 10 tablets. The two others were also said to be the victims of the
drug abuse.
All of them were remanded in judicial custody.
