Just ahead of the Lok Sabha election in Delhi, the city police on Tuesday held a meeting with all officers and briefed them over security arrangements during polls.
The meeting was called by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik at Mata Sundri College for Women, where he met officers of SHO-rank and above to draw up an election plan. He asked officers to be vigilant and maintain law and order in areas under their jurisdiction.
Mr. Patnaik told officer to strictly follow the election commission guidelines and ensure complete implementation of the model code of conduct. Mr. Patnaik ordered officers to prepare a special security plan for polling stations identified as sensitive.
Anti-terror measures
Additional PRO of Delhi Police Anil Mittal said that during the meeting the officers were briefed to take anti-terror measures in the wake of attacks in Sri Lanka. The city will remain on high alert till the election gets over.
The Election Cell of Delhi Police reviewed the status of arms licence holders and also notified bad character in all 15 police districts in the city.
“Our complete emphasis is on to conduct peaceful election on May 12. We have got reserve police force for foot patrolling with local police in sensitive areas. All DCPs have been instructed to supervise foot patrol in areas under their jurisdictions,” said a police officer.
The officer added that the polling stations under the sensitive category will be taken care by a senior police officer. It has been ensured that all polling stations are covered under CCTV and are differently abled friendly.
“We request people to feel free to report any violation of model code of conduct to the police or if they notice any suspicious activity in their locality,” said a police officer.
The meeting also stressed upon increasing intensive and coordinated checking and patrolling at vulnerable points to curb movement of illicit liquor, firearms, cash and musclemen, a senior police officer said.
