While the mercury is on the rise, around 200 families in the posh Palam Vihar here are forced to live without power and water for the past two days with the authorities remaining a mute spectator.
The houses in the J and H blocks of Palam Vihar near Delhi-Gurugram border had plunged into darkness on Sunday evening after two transformers burnt out.
Two days have passed since the power failure but the authorities are yet to take the corrective measure.
Staying in Palam Vihar’s J Block, Lalji Tandon, said he and his wife were rationing the use of inverter and using only a fan for the past two days. He said all the food in the refrigerator was spoiled and they did not even have enough water.
“The power cut started at 9.45 p.m. on Sunday. It was restored only for an hour on Monday. Most of my neighbours had left to stay with their relatives,” the senior citizen said.
Another resident said power failure had made it difficult to pump water from the underground tanks to the overhead tanks making the life of the residents miserable.
Former RWA president of Palam Vihar Sunil Yadav said the residents were also to be partially blamed for the situation since the outstanding dues to the maintenance company of the township is in several crores.
Maintenance dues
“Around one-third of the residents never paid their maintenance dues. But the situation became worse after there was a talk of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram taking over the township. Of late, around three-fourths had stopped paying the charges,” said Mr. Yadav.
The district administration has now appointed an administrator to the township after the term of the RWA ended on March 31. The administrator, S.K. Nigam, said he had taken over a couple of days back and making all efforts to sort out the issues plaguing the township.
“I have spoken to the DHBVN officials and they said the developer owed them some dues. Meanwhile, I have asked the engineers to get the transformer in J Block repaired and instal a new transformer on rent as a stopgap arrangement,” said Mr. Nigam.
